New release of La Passion de Simone

La Passion de Simone by Kaija Saariaho, an oratorio about the life and thoughts of Simone Weil, for soprano solo, choir, orchestra and electronics is now available for the first time on CD.

Having received its world premiere in 2006, this exciting new recording of La Passion de Simone is presented by world-renowned performers. The work was written for four-time Grammy Award winner soprano Dawn Upshaw who features on this CD along with the Tapiola Chamber Choir and Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by the celebrated Esa Pekka Salonen.

Kaija Saariaho considers La Passion de Simone to be her most important work making this release an apt tribute to the composer, who turned 60 on October 14, 2012. The live recorded concert performance was part of her birthday celebration in Helsinki.
